LAURA RUTLEDGE SPEAKS AT UPS HEALTHCARE FORUM

Each year, the UPS Healthcare Forum brings together industry leaders and logistics experts to discuss the state of healthcare, healthcare logistics, and wider issues affecting the industry. On May 17, Laura Rutledge presented Carley’s story at the 2017 UPS Healthcare Forum, Delivering Innovation Together, in Carlsbad, California. Laura was joined by keynote speaker Condoleezza Rice and special guest, Magic Johnson. Laura shared Carley’s story interweaving the staggering statistics for young adults with cancer. At the end of her presentation, Laura introduced Carley to a standing ovation, and together they invited those in attendance to join Rutledge Foundation in increasing survival rates for this forgotten patient population.

RAISE THE RATE ROLLS OUT

For six years, the Rutledge Foundation celebrated the green grass of Spring with our annual Kickball Tournament, Gold Ribbon Games. This year we celebrated the entire month of April with Raise the Rate, Increasing Young Adult Cancer Survival. Thanks to the support of Cook Children’s Medical Center, Fort Worth Magazine, Freese and Nichols, Frost Bank, Moncrief Cancer Institute, Trademark Property, WaterSide Development, Whole Foods and our many volunteers, participants and donors, Rutledge Foundation was able to raise over $32,000 for adolescents and young adults with cancer.

Whether it was at the Starting Line on April 1 with FitBody Boot Camp and Mayor Betsy Price, cycling with Cylcle Bar and ZYN22, playing in the Raise The Rate Kickball Tournament or committing to the 30 Day Fitness Challenge, supporters from Texas to New York spread the word about young adult cancer and raised funding for research for new, less toxic therapies. Congratulations to our newest kickball champions, Team Dopamine sponsored by Moncrief Cancer Institute, our Consolation Round Winners, The Benchwarmers and Best Dressed Team,  LaLa’s soldiers. Watch for more Raise The Rate events on rutledgefoundation.org.

RUTLEDGE FOUNDATION JOINS CHILDHOOD CANCER GROUPS AT TEXAS LEGISLATURE

On March 1, at the prompting of one of our favorite AYAs, Jillian Williams (first photo, on the right), the Rutledge Foundation joined other sarcoma cancer groups in Austin to highlight Childhood Cancer Awareness Day at the Texas State Capital. After proclamations in both the Texas House and Senate, we divided and visited each representative’s office, leaving stress balls and information highlighting childhood and young adult cancer in Texas. The hope is that legislators will support initiatives to improve patient care and fund important research for less toxic, more curative therapies.

JULY IS SARCOMA AWARENESS MONTH

July is Sarcoma Awareness Month. Statistics show that 1 of every 100 cancer diagnoses is a sarcoma cancer. For adolescents and young adults who suffer from sarcoma cancers, there have been no significant changes in treatment or survival rates for over 30 years. Rutledge Foundation is focused on bringing real change to patients battling sarcoma cancers, particularly Ewing sarcoma.
